THE MGB IS STILL ONE OF THE MOST NUMERICALLY SUCCESSFUL SPORTS CARS EVER BUILT,WITH MORE THAN HALF A MILLION MADE BETWEEN 1962 AND ITS DEMISE IN 1980.
AT THE HEIGHT OF ITS POPULARITY ABINGDON WAS MAKING MORE THAN 50,000 A YEAR.THE MAIN DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE MGB AND IT’S FOREBEAR THE “A” WAS IT’S RUGGED CONSTRUCTION:GONE WAS THE SEPARATE,RUGGED AN HEAVY CHASSIS,REPLACED BY A LIGHTER UNIT CONSTRUCTION SHELL.THE CAR APPEARED ORIGINALLY AS AN OPEN ROADSTER WITH A THREE-BEARING VERSION OF THE VENERABLE B SERIES 1798 FOUR CYLINDER ENGINE.
LATERLLY THIS UNIT WAS REPLACED WITH THE STRONGER 5 BEARING ENGINE AND QUIETER REAR AXLE.MK 2 MODELS FROM 1967 HAD THE IMPROVED REAR AXLE ACROSS THE BOARD AS WELL AS AN ALL-SYNCROMESH GEARBOX.
FROM 1974 MGB INTRODUCED THE BLACK BUMPER MODEL WHICH HAS INCREASED RIDE HEIGHT AND SOME MINOR INTERIOR CHANGES.
WE HAVE FOR SALE A 1978 EXAMPLE THAT IS FINISHED IN BLACK WITH GREY PIN STRIPED VELOUR INTERIOR.THE CAR HAS A HUGE PHOTOGRAPHIC HISTORY AND AN EXTENSIVE SUNDRY INVOICE LIST OF PARTS AND REPAIR BILLS.THERE ARE MOT’S DATING BACK TO 1985 WHICH IS INCREDIBLE AND SOMETHING ON MG’S I HAVE NEVER SEEN BEFORE.THE CAR HAS COVERED A GENUINE 74000 MILES FROM NEW AND HAS BEEN LOOKED AFTER IMPECCABLY.IT DRIVES BEAUTIFULLY AND HOLDS TREMENDOUS OIL PRESSURE.THE BODYWORK IS IMMACULATE AND ALL THE BRIGHWORK,RUBBER BUMPERS AND ANCILLARIES ARE SPOTLESS.THE WHEELS HAVE BEEN REFURBISHED AND THE CAR ALSO HAS AN IMMOBILSER FITTED.
